4 Gauge Pre Workout – The Basics
4 Gauge is a pre workout supplement that’s designed to help you get the most out of your time exercising.
You probably already know that pre workout supplements are popular products which are formulated to be consumed just before your training session to help you get the most out of your gym sessions.
4 Gauge is powder-form pre workout supplement that contains a range of ingredients including minerals and plant extracts.
It comes in a powder form which is mixed into water to form a drink which can be consumed around 30 minutes before starting your training session.
At the moment, 4 Gauge is currently only available in one flavor – Fruit Blast (we’ll reveal how it tastes and mixes below).
The official 4 Gauge website describes this supplement as an “explosive” pre workout which has been “rigorously tested and researched” by fitness professionals.
The 4 Gauge branding is certainly eye-catching. The supplement comes in a bright red, shotgun shell-shaped bottle. Each bottle contains 20 servings and comes with a scoop so you can measure the powder properly.
One bottle of 4 Gauge currently costs $45 / £25. This makes it one of the more premium-priced pre workout supplements out there.
You can save some money on the price per bottle if you’re willing to commit to buying more than one at a time from the official site.
The marketing material on the official 4 Gauge site also says that this supplement will be able to help “change the way you train forever”.
Simply put, this supplement promises to help you enjoy “amazing workouts” and essentially make the most of your training regimen.
It all sounds pretty good to us so far, but it’s usually best not to pay too much attention to what manufacturers say about their own products.
Probably the most important thing to focus on when it comes to pre workout supplements is the ingredients formula and the dosages. So, with that in mind, let’s move on to the next important part of our 4 Gauge review.
Let’s begin this part of our 4 Gauge review by taking a look at the actual ingredients label, shown on the official website at the time of writing.
It’s worth noting that this supplement does not use a proprietary blend. This means that the doses of the individual ingredients are clearly displayed on the label.
Generally speaking, this is a plus point. If you’re taking a supplement, it’s always best to know exactly what is each serving.
Editor's note: The health claims about the ingredients mentioned in this article are listed as authorised on the EU Register at the time of publishing.
Let’s now run through some of the main ingredients in the 4 Gauge formula.
• Caffeine Anhydrous – This is the building block of many pre workout supplements. 4 Gauge uses the popular stimulant Caffeine as one of the main ingredients in its formula. Each serving contains 150mg of Caffeine. To put this amount into context, you’d expect to find around 100mg of Caffeine in a regular cup of coffee.
• L-Citrulline DL-Malate – This is one of the most commonly-used pre workout ingredients. In case you didn’t know, L-Citrulline is an amino acid that’s found in watermelons. Each serving of 4 Gauge contains a generous 6g dose of L-Citrulline DL-Malate.
• Creatine Monohydrate – You probably already know about Creatine as a popular supplement used post-workout. Many pre workouts also use a smaller dose of Creatine in their formulas, and 4 Gauge uses 1g per serving.
• Acetyl L-Carnitine – This is an amino acid compound that is found in lots of the leading pre workout supplements. Each serving of 4 Gauge contains 500mg of Acetyl L-Carnitine.
• L-Theanine – An amino acid which is present in tea leaves. It makes a nice addition to the formula alongside the Caffeine. Each serving of 4 Gauge contains 200mg of L-Theanine.
• Rhodiola Rosea (Root) Powder – This is an extract which comes from a perennial flowering plant in the Crassulaceae family. Each serving contains 100mg of Rhodiola Rosea powder.
• Coconut Water Powder – Coconut Water is becoming a popular alternative to some commercially-available energy drinks. 4 Gauge includes a 300mg powdered form of Coconut Water in each serving.
• Red Beetroot Extract – Sourced from the beet plant, this is another plant extract ingredient in the formula. Each serving of 4 Gauge uses 300mg.
• Potassium – Potassium is an essential mineral that we need to get from our diets. It’s an essential mineral which contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and normal muscle function, and each serving of 4 Gauge contains 10mg of it.
• Calcium – This is another important mineral we need to get from out nutrition. Calcium contributes to normal energy release and normal muscle function, and each serving of 4 Gauge contains 30mg.
It’s worth noting that 4 Gauge does not use the artificial sweetener Sucralose in its formula. Instead, it uses thing such as Monk Fruit Extract and Dextrose to enhance the taste.
The official website also says that each serving of 4 Gauge contains a total of 5 calories per serving.

How To Take 4 Gauge
As we mentioned above, each tub of 4 Gauge contains 20 servings.
The directions for use on the label say to mix one serving, which is actually two scoops, with water or juice about 20 to 30 minutes before exercise.
It’s worth remember that because this supplement uses a relatively significant dose of Caffeine, it’s probably best not to take it too close to when you go to sleep.
The product comes with a plastic scoop so that you can ensure that you’re dosing correctly.
The Taste and Flavor
When it comes to selecting a pre workout supplement, it’s important to choose a product with a flavor you actually enjoy.
As we mentioned above, 4 Gauge is currently only available in one flavor, called ‘Fruit Blast’. This is a bit of a drawback as other similar supplements usually offer at least two or three different flavors.
When we tried 4 Gauge, we found that the white powder mixed really well into water, and only required a few stirs for it to fully dissolve.
The resulting liquid was light pink in color. The taste was pretty good overall. 4 Gauge definitely tastes ‘fruity’, and the flavor is sweet but also slightly sour.
It does have a bit of a ‘synthetic’ aftertaste, but we’ve found that to be the case with most of the pre workouts we’ve tried.
4 Gauge Pre Workout Reviews
As we mentioned about, 4 Gauge is currently only available to buy directly from the official website.
Although this means that you’ll know you’re getting a genuine product, it can also make it a bit tricky when it comes to finding verified customer reviews.
For example, because 4 Gauge is not available on other sites such as Amazon, it means that we can’t check out any verified reviews on there.
Of course, the 4 Gauge website does feature some positive testimonials and reviews, but generally manufacturers will not post negative reviews on their official sites.
What About Side Effects?
As always, we strongly recommend that you speak to your doctor or a certified medical professional before taking any supplement for the first time, or making any major lifestyle chances.
The main thing to be wary of when it comes to pre workout supplements is the use of stimulants such as Caffeine.
As we’ve already covered above, each serving of 4 Gauge contains 150mg of Caffeine Anhydrous. To put that amount into context, you’d expect to find around 100mg of Caffeine in a regular cup of coffee.
If you’re sensitive to stimulants or are already consuming plenty of Caffeine from other sources, it may be best to avoid this product.
There’s a warning on the label saying not to exceed the recommended dose, and that you should discontinue use and consult your doctor if you have an adverse reaction to the product.
The label also says that 4 Gauge should not be used if you have a pre-existing medical condition or are taking any medications. It also says that it should not be used by anyone under the age of 18.
On the label, there’s also a warning saying that because the product contains Caffeine, it should not be used by people who are looking to eliminate Caffeine from their diet.
Is This The Best Pre Workout For Me?
Overall, we’ve been pretty impressed by the 4 Gauge pre workout supplement.
It includes a lot of the commonly-used pre workout ingredients, including sensible doses of Caffeine, L-Citrulline and Creatine. These are combined with other ingredients such as Potassium, Calcium and plant extracts such as Rhodiola Rosea and Red Beetroot Extract.

Anything Else To Consider?
When it comes to any kind of fitness supplements, it’s always best to do some thorough research before committing to a product.
For this reason, we always think that it’s a good idea to speak to your doctor before taking any new supplement or making any major changes to your diet or exercise program.
Also, it’s important to remember that supplements such as pre workouts shouldn’t be regarded as ‘magic powders’ that will suddenly transform your health and fitness regimen.
Yes, they can be a useful addition to you regimen, but it’s important to get the basics right, such as following a varied diet and getting a sensible workout plan in place, before committing to a new supplement.
You probably already know this, but supplements are not intended to replace a varied diet and healthy overall lifestyle. Rather, they should be seen as a ‘companion’ which can support your healthy lifestyle choices.
