We’re big fans of the Performance Lab range of supplements and Opti-Nutra, the company behind the brand, were kind enough to gift us a bottle of their BCAA offering to try out.

As you probably already know, BCAA stands for branched chain amino acids. Supplements using BCAAs are popular amongst gym-goers and bodybuilders alike.

In this review, we’re going to take a detailed look at the Performance Lab SPORT BCAA to see where it stands. We’re going to be paying particularly close attention to the ingredients formula, the doses, the directions and the price.

So, with the introductions out of the way, let’s start taking a closer look at Performance Lab’s BCAA supplement in a bit more detail.

Performance Lab SPORT BCAA – The Basics

The Performance Lab range of supplements is made by a company called Opti-Nutra, who are also behind the popular ‘nootropic’ Mind Lab Pro.

The range of products includes a wide variety of supplements, ranging from multivitamins to protein powders and pre workouts.

The letters BCAA stand for ‘Branched Chain Amino Acids’. BCAA supplements usually deliver these three essential amino acids:

• Leucine
• Isoleucine
• Valine

The word ‘essential’ refers to the fact that our bodies cannot make these amino acids on its own, meaning that we need to get them from our diet and nutrition.

You should be able to get enough BCAAs from your diet and nutrition alone, but some people still choose to ‘top up’ their intake by using supplements.

The SPORT BCAA supplement is exactly what you would expect from its name. It’s a capsule-formed branched chain amino acid supplement designed to provide a means for you to top up your intake of BCAAs.

If you’re familiar with BCAAs, then you’ll already know that they are popular supplements amongst gym-goers and athletes.

There are various forms of BCAA supplement. Some are available as powders to be mixed in with water to form a drink, and others, like Performance Lab’s are available in a capsule form, to be swallowed with a glass of water like a multivitamin.

There are some BCAA supplements that are also sold as pre-mixed drinks.

The form or BCAA supplement that you choose to go for will usually come down to personal preference.

For instance, if you’re looking for a product that is unlikely to contain any sweeteners or many additives, then a capsule-form may be best for you.

However, if you’re after a tasty drink to consume around your workouts, then perhaps a powder-form or pre-mixed drink would better suit your preferences.

The Performance Lab website says that their SPORT BCAA supplement has been deliberately provided in “convenient” capsules to make it an easy-to-take product.

The product description on the official site also says that this supplement provides an “ultramodern” option for those looking to up their intake of BCAAs.

Each bottle of SPORT BCAA comes with a total of 120 capsules, and costs around $39 from the official Performance Lab website.

So now that we’ve taken a look at the basic facts about this BCAA supplement, it’s time to focus on the ingredients formula.

The Ingredients

Let’s begin this important section by looking at the actual ingredients label of Performance Lab SPORT BCAA as shown on the bottle.

The Performance Lab SPORT BCAA ingredients formula

The Performance Lab SPORT BCAA ingredients formula

As you can no doubt see for yourself, the ingredients formula is a super simple one.

The supplement, which is vegan-friendly, non-GMO, gluten-free and soy-free, contains three active ingredients – L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine at the commonly-used 2:1:1 ratio.

The three amino acids are each supplied in a combination of two different forms. One is Ajipure®, which is made with Ferment-A-Pure technology, and the other is Performance Lab’s proprietary NutriGenesis® BCAAs.

These ingredients are found in the following amounts, per serving of six capsules:

• L-Leucine: 1500mg
• L-Isoleucine: 750mg
• L-Valine: 750mg

What we particularly like about the formula here is the cleanness and simplicity of it.

Aside from the three active ingredients, the Performance Lab SPORT BCAA only contains two other ingredients – the plant-based Pullulan capsule, and rice concentrate.

Some other supplements on the market use other additional ingredients, but that’s not the case here. Performance Lab have opted to keep things short and simple, and use just five ingredients in total.

How To Take It

As mentioned above, each bottle of Performance Lab SPORT BCAA contains 120 capsules.

The directions are fairly straightforward. On the official Performance Lab website, they say that for “best results” you should consider taking two to four capsules 45 to 60 minutes before a workout and two to four capsules immediately post-workout.

It’s worth noting that to hit the dosage levels stated on the supplement facts panel, you’ll need to take a total of six capsules.

It’s important to carefully check the label of any product you purchase and not to exceed the recommended dose.

Price And Where To Buy

The price for one bottle of Performance Lab SPORT BCAA is currently $39.

You can currently only buy this supplement directly from the manufacturer on the official website, meaning that you won’t find it in the shops or at other online retailers.

Although they do not offer regular discount codes, you can save some money on the price per bottle if you’re willing to buy more than one at a time from the official site.

It’s worth checking the official Performance Lab website for the latest prices and deals, as they can change from time to timr.

Performance Lab SPORT BCAA Reviews

We’ve said this in some of our other Performance Lab reviews, but one of the downsides of their products not being available online from places such as Amazon means that it makes it that little bit more tricky to uncover customer reviews.

In other words, because Performance Lab SPORT BCAA is not on Amazon or other online retailers, we can’t check out the listing to see reviews from verified purchases.

There are plenty of positive reviews posted on the Performance Lab website, but it is probably better to take these with a pinch of salt, as manufacturers, generally speaking, tend to display largely favorable reviews on their official sites.

What About Side Effects?

As mentioned above, we recommend that you speak to your doctor before taking a new supplement or making any major lifestyle changes.

It’s also important that you carefully read the label of any product you purchase, including all of the warnings and directions.

There is a warning on the label saying that you should not use this supplement if you are pregnant, nursing or under the age of 18.

The label also says that you should speak to your doctor before taking this or any supplement if you have or suspect a medical condition and/or are taking any medication.

It also says that you should discontinue the use of this product and seek medical advice if you experience any adverse reactions from taking this supplement.

Anything Else to Consider?

There are a couple of important points we want to stress when it comes to food supplements in general.

Supplements can be a very convenient way of topping up your intake of certain important nutrients. However, supplements are not intended to replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle overall.

As we mentioned above, BCAAs are present in many foods, and you should be able to get what you need by following a sensible nutrition plan.

However, if you’re looking to up your intake of BCAAs, then a supplement like this one can be a convenient way of doing so.

Pros and Cons

Let’s now look at some of the pros and cons when it comes to the Performance Lab SPORT BCAA supplement.

Review Conclusion – Final Thoughts
