Today I’m going to be reviewing the Ra Optics Ultimate Day blue light blocking glasses.

We’ve already reviewed the Ra Optics Ultimate Night lenses which are designed for use after dark.

But we wanted to try out the day lenses which are designed for use when you are indoors when the sun is up and are being exposed to artificial light.

The Ultimate Day lenses, which have recently been updated with to feature a slightly yellower tint, are supposed to be used when you are indoors and are being exposed to artificial light instead of sunlight.

They are designed to block out some, but not all, of the blue light you’re exposed to during the day, including from screens, indoor lighting and through glass windows.

These were the first ‘daytime’ blue blockers I’ve ever tried so it was really cool to be able to give them ago. Our friends over at Ra Optics were kind enough to gift us some pairs to try out for ourselves.

The purpose of this review is to bring you everything you need to know about the Ra Optics Ultimate Night lenses so you can decide whether they’re a product worth buying or not.

We’re going to be paying particularly close attention to the quality of the lenses, the frames and the effect we felt whilst using them.

We’re also going to take a look online to see what real customers are saying about them, and see if they make it onto our list of the best blue blocker glasses on sale right now.

So, with the introductions out of the way, let’s start taking a closer look at the Ra Optics Ultimate Day blue light blocking glasses in a bit more detail.

Ra Optics Ultimate Night Glasses – The Basics

The Ra Optics brand was founded by Matt Maruca a few years ago, and they have quickly established themselves as one the leading players in the market.

The one problem with some of the older types of blue blockers is the fact that they were not very stylish.

Ra Optics, and a number of other brands such as BLUblox, have attempted to address this issue by providing quality blue blocker lenses which also look stylish to wear.

If you’re serious about blocking out the effects of blue light, then you’ll want a pair of glasses that you’ll actually feel comfortable wearing out and about.

Ra Optics offer eight different frame styles, so you should be able to find one that suits you. For each of the frames, they offer ‘Ultimate Day’ and ‘Ultimate Night’ lenses.

As you’ve probably already guessed, the night lenses are for use after dark and specifically in the hours just before going to bed.

Meanwhile, the Ultimate Day lenses are designed to block out less blue light but still remove some of the more energetic frequencies. They are designed for use if you’re stuck indoors around artificial light all day.

Taking a look on the official Ra Optics website, there is some more information about the Ultimate Day lenses and what exactly it is they’re supposed to do.

The product description says that the Ultimate Day lenses have been specifically put together for anyone who is exposed regularly to artificial light during the day, especially students, employees, office workers, hospital workers – as well as anyone who works with a computer screen or uses screen devices.

The Ultimate Day lenses are said to reduce the most intense blue light emission from sources such as LED lighting, fluorescent lighting, and screen devices.

They work by helping to balance out the spectrum of light produced by artificial lighting.

If you take a browse around the Ra Optics website for yourself, you’ll notice that the whole range carries a premium price tag. However, you can save yourself 10% off your order if you click through this link.

So, now that we’ve got the basic points out of the way, it’s time to start taking a closer look the glasses themselves.

The Look

We tried out the Herschel and Ott frames from the Ra Optics website and they arrived on our doorstep after about a week. We live in the UK, and shipping to the US is quicker than that, so you should expect to get your order within a few days.

The first thing we noticed when opening the box was that the lenses have a light yellowish tint to them, compared to the Ultimate Night ones, which are dark orange.

There is a really good range of different frames available on the Ra Optics site, so you should have no problem in finding one that suits you best.

The Build

Every pair of glasses from Ra Optics comes with a carrying case and lens cleaning cloth. The case is sturdy and will protect your glasses from damage while not in use.

The frames we tried out were lightweight but had a quality feel to them. The hinges spring open when you are putting them on, which is a classy touch and not found in a lot of the other blue blockers we’ve reviewed recently.

Overall, the product has a high quality feel to it. And thankfully so, given the high price point of the Ra Optics range.

In our opinion, it’s worth shelling out a little bit more on some glasses that are going to last you a bit longer rather than opt for something cheaper just to save a bit of cash in the short-term.

Let’s now move on to our testing of the glasses themselves.

The Effect

Simply put, we love these lenses. I’m actually wearing my pair now as I write this review.

The best way to describe them is they add a ‘Night Shift’ filter to daytime artificial light. If you’re familiar with the Apple ‘Night Shift’ filter which is designed to reduce blue light exposure after dark, this adds a similar effect.

Florescent and LED lighting is made less harsh, and the Ultimate Day lenses add a subtle tint of light yellow to the worst culprits such as devices and indoor lighting.

The Ultimate Day lenses also allow you to get on with your work without the effects caused by wearing nighttime blue blockers during the day.

One of the best places we enjoyed wearing them was on the London Underground, which has some really bright florescent and LED lighting on some of the lines.

The Ra Optics Ultimate Day lenses helped to reduce the brightness and harshness of that light, without blocking out too much of it.

I also ended up wearing my Ultimate Day lenses in the gym. My gym has a mixture of LED lighting and natural light from the windows.

I was at first a bit self-conscious about wearing them while working out, but nobody seemed to notice (or care!).

Overall, I cannot imagine going back to not using my Ultimate Day lenses when exposed to artificial light and screens in the future.

Ra Optics Ultimate Night Reviews

The Ra Optics brand is a relatively new one, but there are still plenty of reviews online.

At the time of writing, Ra Optics has an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars from 38 reviews on their official Facebook page, which is pretty good.

Most people said that they were delighted with the glasses, although there were some complaints about the delivery times. This is pretty normal for most online-only brands though.

Any Negatives?

• These are a premium-priced product, meaning that they may not fit into everyone’s budgets. You can at least get 10% off when you click through to the RA Optics site through this (affiliate) link.

• There may be a small customs fee to pay if you’re ordering from a country outside of the US.

• You can only buy them directly from the official Ra Optics website at the moment, meaning that you won’t find them in stores or elsewhere online right now.

Are These The Best Blue Blocking Glasses For Artificial Light?

We really love the Ra Optics Ultimate Day lenses and can’t envisage going back to not using them while indoors during the daytime.

The lenses are high quality and block out the most important frequencies of blue light, and the frames are both stylish and durable.

The main downside to the product is the premium price tag, but we always think that it’s best to pay a bit more for quality and durability.

Anything Else To Consider?

Just remember that blue blocker glasses can’t solve all of your health and lifestyle problems on their own.

These products are designed to be used and combined with a healthy lifestyle overall. That means making sure that you’re sticking to a good diet and are exercising regularly.

We’ve found that the Ra Optics range of Blue Blockers have been a massive help for us – but don’t expect them to work miracles on their own!

Review Conclusion – Final Thoughts

That brings us to the end of our look at the Ra Optics Ultimate Day blue blocker glasses.

Overall, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these to anyone who is looking to reduce their exposure to artificial light indoors during the day.

They really help to filter down the brightest frequencies of blue light to make the overall look more manageable, without blocking out too much to make you feel sleepy.
