Prices start at just $350, so the Tuft & Needle is indeed considerably cheaper than many of the other similar foam mattresses on the market out there right now.

But where does the Tuft & Needle stand in comparison to the top products, and does the lower price mean a compromise on quality and durability?

This Tuft & Needle Original review is going to focus on all of the key things that you need to know about this particular mattress as we look to see where it stands in relation to the top products out there.

In particular, we’re going to be paying close attention to what the mattress is made of, what it feels like to sleep on, and what real customers are saying about it.

We’re then going to see where it ranks in comparison to some of the higher end memory foam mattresses on sale right now.

So, with the introductions out of the way, let’s start taking a closer look at the Tuft & Needle to see exactly where it stands.

Tuft & Needle – The Basics

If you’re looking for a new mattress on a budget, then the chances are that you have already come across the Tuft & Needle.

It’s an all-foam mattress which promised to deliver a great night’s sleep on a budget.

The first thing that stands out about the Tuft & Needle is indeed the price point. A Twin starts at $350, with a King priced at $750. These prices make it one of the most affordable foam mattresses we’ve reviewed recently.

The Tuft & Needle brand has actually been around for quite a lot longer than many of the other major players in the ‘bed in a box’ market.

The company was founded in 2012 with their Original mattress, and they have since expanded to offer more products including another mattress (called Mint), as well as bedding and furniture.

This review is going to concentrate solely on their Original mattress as we look to see where it stands in relation to the competition.

Taking a look at the marketing material on the official website, the Original is branded as an “exceptional” mattress at a “fair” price.

The official website also claims that 95 per cent of their customers “keep and love” their Tuft & Needle mattress after purchase.

Like most of the other players in this market, the Tuft & Needle comes with a 100-night home trial, which means that you can return it for a full refund during that time if you’re not happy with it. It also comes with a 10-year warranty.

The marketing material says that the Tuft & Needle will feel “soft and comfy” without compromising on both bounce and support.

It also claims that the mattress has been designed for sleepers of any weight and size in mind.

One of the other major marketing points of the Tuft & Needle is the fact that it claims to use types of foam which can help to keep you cool during the night. This is great to hear, because foam mattresses tend to have a bit of a reputation for getting too hot during the night.

The Tuft & Needle is 10 inches thick, which is the standard for most mattresses in this category. The “ultra-soft” cover is made of polyester and has been designed to allow airflow through the mattress.

Let’s now take a look at the actual construction of the Tuft & Needle to see what it’s made of:

1) Three inches of T&N Foam – For quick response and bounce
2) Seven inches of High Density Poly Foam – For strong support and durability

So, it all sounds pretty good to us so far, but we prefer not to pay too much attention to what manufacturers say about their own products.

Instead, it’s better to focus on what the mattress actually feels like and what real customers are saying about it.

So let’s now move on to the next important part of our Tuft & Needle review.

What Does The Tuft & Needle Mattress Feel Like?

The Tuft & Needle, like most of the other products out there, is marketed as a ‘medium-firm’ mattress.

However, it actually has a significantly firmer feel than a lot of the other similar products out there.

It comes in at around a 7.3 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest), making this one of the firmer mattresses we’ve reviewed recently.

That’s great if you’re a stomach or back sleeper, as people who sleep in those positions tend to favor a firmer mattress.

However, it may not be best suited to side sleepers, who generally prefer a softer mattress to allow their hips to sink in a bit.

The Positives

• Low Price – There’s no getting around the fact that the Tuft & Needle has an appealing low price. It’s one of the most affordable ‘bed in a box’ mattresses out there and this is a plus point for anyone working on a budget.

• Good Quality – The Tuft & Needle Original is made of high quality materials, and despite the low price, the manufacturers have not compromised on quality.

• Will Suit Back and Stomach Sleepers – The firmer feel of the Tuft & Needle means that this mattress is likely to perfectly suit back and stomach sleepers, who typically prefer a firmer mattress overall for the added support.

The Negatives

• May Not Be Best for Side Sleepers – Because of its firmer feel, we don’t think that the Tuft & Needle will be very well suited to side sleepers, who generally prefer a softer mattress.

• Motion Transfer – Again, as this is a firmer mattress, it also has more motion transfer than some of its competitions. What does that mean? Simply put, it means that you may feel the movement of your partner more during the night, which is not great if you are a light sleeper.

Tuft & Needle Reviews

We took a look on Amazon.com to see what real customers were saying about the Tuft & Needle mattress.

At the time of writing, it had an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars from more than 7,000 reviews. This is incredibly promising.

One happy customer left a five star review of the Tuft & Needle mattress and said that they were delighted with both the mattress and its price. They were also incredibly impressed by the customer service, after they were offered a mattress topper for free.

One more negative review came from someone who rated it three stars and and said that it was too firm for their liking (you have been warned!).

Anything Else To Consider?

The only way to be 100 per cent sure about whether a mattress is right for you or not is to actually sleep on it for a few months.

That’s why we always recommend that you take full advantage of the home trials that come with most mattresses in this category.

As mentioned above, the Tuft & Needle mattress comes with a 100-night home trial, meaning that you can test it out at home and return it for a full refund if you’re not happy during that time.

Review Conclusion – Final Thoughts

That brings us to the end of our Tuft & Needle mattress review.

Overall, we were very impressed by this mattress, which delivers quality on a budget and is clearly loved by thousands of customers.

It uses a simple two-layer foam design to help support a good night’s sleep, and focuses on breathable materials to help with cooling.

The Tuft & Needle mattress certainly has a much firmer feel than a lot of the other mattresses in this category. This will make it perfectly suited to stomach and back sleepers. However, side sleepers may find that this mattress is a little bit too firm for their liking.

Overall though, we think that the Tuft & Needle mattress is a great option, especially if you’re a stomach or back sleeper looking for a firm mattress on a budget.
